A Versatile Cosmetic Solution
Porcelain veneers can address imperfections such as:
- Stains that do not respond to whitening
- Misshapen teeth
- Small or worn teeth
- Chips and cracks
In some cases, they can be used as a way to address minor misalignment rather than undergoing a full orthodontic treatment such as Invisalign®. We will only recommend veneers as an alternative to orthodontics if the misalignment you wish to address is not affecting your oral health.
We can help bring your confidence to exciting new heights with custom porcelain veneers.
Requirements for Porcelain Veneers
Veneers candidates must be in good oral health. Any instances of gum disease, infection, or decay need to be fully resolved before receiving your veneers. Patients must also have an adequate amount of tooth enamel.
The Treatment Process
Once you and your doctor have decided that veneers can help you accomplish your smile goals, your treatment will be provided in one or two appointments.
Preparing the Teeth
To ensure that traditional veneers fit properly and complement the rest of your teeth, we must slightly alter the tooth’s front surface. Your doctor will begin by removing a small amount of enamel. If you are receiving no-prep veneers, the tooth will be cleaned. Next, the dentist will take impressions of the tooth. These will be used to guide the fabrication of your veneer.
Patient satisfaction is of the utmost importance to us. We can create a wax-up to provide a preview of the final results so that we can make any desired adjustments prior to finalizing your veneers. If you are receiving traditional veneers, we may also provide you with a temporary to wear until the permanent veneers are ready. Typically, patients can expect the turn-around time from the lab to be about two weeks.
Placing Your Porcelain Veneers
Once your porcelain veneers have been fabricated, you will return to our office for your second appointment. At this time, the doctor will remove your temporary veneers and bond the permanent veneers into place.
We can provide same-day veneers created using CEREC® technology. Once the teeth have been prepared, the dentist takes a digital impression that guides computer-controlled tools in creating your veneers from a single block of porcelain. Same-day veneers look highly realistic but cannot always provide the level of customization that hand-crafted veneers can. During your consultation, your dentist can help determine which option is right for you.
