Benefits of Traditional Braces
Traditional braces have several benefits:
- Improved oral health: Straight, properly aligned teeth are easier to brush and floss, helping patients avoid tooth decay and gum disease.
- Effective for both simple and complex needs: While alternative treatments cannot address more complex issues, braces can help those with pronounced malocclusion to achieve straighter, healthier smiles.
- Appropriate for both adolescents and adults: While some parents hesitate to have their children undergo treatment with removable orthodontics due to the risk of losing the hardware, braces eliminate this risk because they stay in place at all times.
About the Hardware
Patients who choose traditional braces will have metal, ceramic, or tooth-colored brackets bonded to their teeth. If you do not want your braces to stand out, ceramic and tooth-colored brackets can blend with your teeth, making your hardware less noticeable. The brackets will serve as supports for metal wires that are periodically tightened.
Treatment Timeline
Braces treatment begins with a comprehensive assessment. During the initial braces consultation, the orthodontist will take digital impressions of the patient’s teeth and photos of the patient’s face and mouth. Using these images, our orthodontist can create a plan to move the teeth over time predictably. The consultation process may involve at least two office visits to collect all necessary data.
During the next appointment, our dental team will attach brackets to the surface of the teeth. This does not require the removal of any dental enamel and is a very comfortable patient process. After the brackets have fully bonded with the teeth, archwires are attached with special bands to the brackets.
Traditional braces are a proven way to achieve a straighter smile, and our orthodontist has helped many patients achieve improved health and confidence with this treatment.
Throughout orthodontic treatment, patients will visit the orthodontist every six to eight weeks for adjustments. The total length of treatment will depend on the patient’s needs and case severity. After the teeth are properly positioned, we will remove the wires and brackets. Patients can expect to wear a retainer after the braces have been removed in order to ensure their teeth remain in their proper positions.
All orthodontic treatments require dedication and commitment. To encourage patient compliance, our practice offers several incentives, such as gift cards through our in-house Ortho Bucks program.
